My mission is to bring mindfulness practices into home, work and education settings.

Thanks to the Coming Home Project, who sponsored the healthcare provider self-care retreat at the Mercy Center, I learned how contemplative practices like mindfulness and meditation can help prevent burnout. Since that retreat in 2010 I’ve been practicing mindfulness to manage the stress of working while raising a family.

I started blogging about self-care in 2011 when I felt overwhelmed during a very stressful time in my family’s life. We were faced with my husband’s chronic illness, job loss and financial insecurity while trying to parent our very young son. We had limited supports at that time. I was commuting 2 hours a day to a high demand social work job and coming home feeling depleted. I had no energy left to take care of others.

My life changed when I started setting boundaries and taking better care of myself. I started meditation and other mindfulness-based practices to reduce stress and improve my wellbeing. I believe in using a compassionate and holistic approach to managing health and wellness. I’m also passionate about preventing caregiver and provider burnout and compassion fatigue.

If you're feeling anxious, lonely, sad or overwhelmed right now, you are not alone. These are normal responses to stressful and unpredictable life experiences. It's important that you take time to attend to your emotional needs and well-being. Whether you're a parent trying to juggle work demands while caring for young children or a healthcare professional feeling burnout and compassion fatigue, I can help. The antidote to burnout is having a strong support system and practicing self-care so you can access your inner resilience.

I’ve helped individuals and couples adjust to major life changes such as divorce, illness, loss, war zone deployments and other sources of stress & trauma. I also have 8 years of experience in online teaching, training and coaching. My clients and students describe me as warm, caring, compassionate, knowledgeable and engaging.
