Sofia’s Sanctuary was established in January 2011 to inspire busy people to practice mindful self-care so they can stop stressing and start flourishing.
This site is for anyone who feels tired, overwhelmed or stressed by their busy lives. I teach mindfulness to prevent burn-out* to students, caregivers, teachers, parents, couples, colleagues and managers wanting to create healthier environments in their families and work settings.
As a busy working therapist and mom I have been practicing mindfulness over the last 8 years to overcome my own stress and past trauma. There are days I feel like I’m doing a great job managing my work and home life and then there are days that feel stressful and overwhelming. What I’ve learned is that there is no perfect practice but mindfulness can teach us how to ride the waves of life in a more graceful and compassionate way.
I believe we have the power to create meaningful lives through the choices we make every day. These choices can include how we interpret a situation, what we do in response to it, and what decisions we make to move us forward in our lives. We have the power to heal from painful and difficult experiences, but we don’t have to do it alone. We also need healthy others to be in our community of support. We can’t heal in isolation.
